Listen Up! Blondie – Pollinator: Back again with their eleventh studio album, Blondie reminds us how they became a dominant force in the rock world.  With a sound that has been shaped through the ages, Debbie Harry’s vocals are just as strong as they were 80’s. Available on CD and Vinyl!

Erasure – World Be Gone:  If you know us at Borderline, then you know we LOVE Erasure! Back again with their SEVENTEENTH studio album, Erasure proves that they are not out of ideas yet!  The group clearly has a statement to make, but only if you are willing to listen.  A little less on the dance side, this album is all about the music and we can’t get enough.  Available on CD and Vinyl.

Melanie C – Remixed:  This is our favorite Mel C remix collection yet!  Featuring songs from her new album as well as classics, there is a little something for everyone on here!  Available as a standard edition CD and a DELUXE EDITION CD + DVD.

NEW RELEASES:

MADONNA: Unreleased Mixes, vol. 10 – We have to start with the Madonna releases!  Unreleased 10 is a remix album containing some of the best unreleased remixes of both classic Madonna hits and newer songs!  On top of the 10 new remixes, there are also 2 bonus demo tracks that were never released officially! 

MADONNA: 80’s DJ Promo Mixes – The official promo mixes to ten of Madonna’s greatest hits from the 80s compiled onto one CD!  These remixes are amazing.

Goldfrapp: Silver Eye – This masterfully crafted album has it all. It’s emotionally rich, enjoyably lighthearted at times, and overall fun to listen to.  Alison Goldfrapp is not shy to show off what her voice can do on these tracks which range from high energy dance beats to ambient electronic chill-out vibes.  Definitely check this one out on vinyl or CD!

Depeche Mode: Spirit – Never shy to speak their minds, the 2016 US presidential election certainly influenced the writing on this 37 year old band’s 14^th album.  The classic Depeche Mode synths and beats paired with Dave Gahan’s instantly recognizable voice make this album feel both nostalgic and fresh at the same time. Check it out on deluxe edition CD, standard CD, and vinyl now!

Spoon: Hot Thoughts – We LOVE this album!  A little more daring than anything else the band has tried before, this album is a pop/rock masterpiece!  Fun at times, serious at other times, and extremely musically appealing, the band keeps its signature sound while also experimenting with more complicated chord progressions and studio techniques. Available on LIMITED EDITION – RED VINYL only available at INDIE record stores, like us!

DNCE: DNCE – Not a new release, just a notice that this (one of our favorite albums of 2016) is now available on vinyl!

Ed Sheeran: ÷ (Divide) – How could we start with anything else?  Sheeran’s third studio release is as quirky as it is catchy.  Always personal, this time Ed adapts modern pop and hip hop sounds with his small-town charm and great story telling ability.  Available on standard and deluxe edition CD, as well as vinyl LP.  This album is a necessary addition to any collection.

Lady Gaga: Million Reasons (Remixes) – 12 danceable remixes of Gaga’s top 10 hit “Million Reasons,” this remix album is hot!  It also includes 4 live bonus tracks, including “A-Yo/John Wayne” live from the Victoria’s Secret fashion show and her “Million Reasons” performance at Super Bowl 51!

Ryan Adams: Prisoner – His sixteenth studio album is a reminder of why he’s had such a successful career.  Adams is artistic, charming, and talented and this album jus solidifies those facts. Good for easy listening and a necessity for every vinyl collection!

Donna Summer & Barbra Streisand: Enough Is Enough 2017 – Can you believe it’s the 40^th anniversary of this smash hit?  “Enough Is Enough 2017” entered the Billboard Top 10 US Dance Club Songs chart this year, and now here are the remixes!  12 incredible remixes to celebrate a classic hit.  What’s better than that?

Listen Up! Vol. 104 – Back with its 104^th installment is the Listen Up! dance remix series!  Hot remixes of top hits by Melanie C, LeAnn Rimes, Donna Summer & Barbra Streisand, Bebe Rexha, Ed Sheeran, and more!  This CD is available as a continuous and non-continuous mix.

The XX: I See You -- This year was off to a great start with the newest release by the Grammy award winning band – The XX. After the massive success of member Jamie XX’s solo album in 2015, the band returned with a much more evolved sound.  They manage to sound like a much bigger group while still holding onto their subtle vocals and heavily reverbed guitar licks. We can’t get enough of it, and we think you’ll love it, too!

Madonna: Immaculate Collection VINYL REISSUE – Madonna’s classic Greatest Hits compilation reissued as a LIMITED EDITION, import only vinyl 2LP!  All of the original artwork, pressed on 1 MARBLED BLUE and 1 GOLD vinyl!  This stunning re-release comes with a unique hype sticker exclusive to this release. Record Store Day:

Many of you probably know about April RSD, but less know about Fall RSD. Every year on Black Friday, several artists drop special releases exclusively to independent record stores like Borderline!  There were tons of great titles this year and we still have a few copies of some of them left in store!  The Ramones, The Rolling Stones, Jerry Garcia, The Bangles, Motley Crue, and Jimmy Hendricks to name a few.   Check them out at our Chicago storefront!

Lady Gaga – Joanne.  How can we start by talking about anything else? LADY GAGA released a new album last month! THE Lady Gaga!! The album is called Joanne and it is amazing. Gaga tries a new style that contrasts her previous album – ARTPOP. Jumping from a folk rock feel to Gaga’s famous pop sound and  then finally landing on almost a show tune vibe, this album seems to satisfy a lot of expressive needs for Gaga. The album title and accompanying title song pay tribute to the singer’s late aunt who Gaga cites as inspiration for much of her work. The ballad “Angel Down” is a memorial to the late Trayvon Martin who was a black 17 year old killed by police in 2012. “How could I not say something?” Gaga responded when asked why she wrote the song.  “Dancin’ In Circles” and “Perfect Illusion” are reminiscent of the old Gaga. “Come To Mama” and “Hey Girl” are throwbacks to her days before becoming Lady Gaga and was still performing as Stefani Germanotta – the young Italian girl from New York with a dream of ending up on Broadway someday. “A-YO,” “John Wayne,” and “Diamond Heart” point at a new Gaga – insisting that vocals be raw and real, guitars be featured, and fun be had. We recommend this one for sure!

Michael Buble – Nobody But Me. He’s back and better than ever! In his ninth studio album, Buble features 3 original songs and 9 covers. Frank Ocean – Blond. The wait is over. Frank Ocean’s album Blond is finally out on vinyl as an import version, pressed on colored vinyl! The album features guest vocals from Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Yung Lean, André 3000, Sebastian, James Blake, and Kim Burrell among others, and production from Frank Ocean himself, as well as Pharrell Williams, Tyler, The Creator, Jamie xx, Rostam Batmanglij, Om'Mas Keith, and many more. David Bowie – Low. Now in stock on vinyl, a 2016 reissued import of Low pressed on orange vinyl! This 1977 album is one of our favorites from Bowie, written during a tough time in the late artist’s life. This album marked his unique transition into ambient and electronic music.

The days are getting shorter, the sky is getting gloomier, and the air is getting colder. That can only mean one thing – it’s fall! Whether you’re someone who loves fall or someone who needs a little help getting into the spirit, there is music to bring out the best of the autumn spirit. This post will highlight a few of our autumn favorites at Borderline to help get you into the season!

Brian’s #1 FAVORITE fall band is The Neighbourhood. The dark tones contrasting the fast beats with the singer’s soft, whiney voice droning over the songs makes it the absolute perfect band to listen to on a rainy fall day. Look no further than their first single, “Sweater Weather.” The title is telling enough. Both of The Neighbourhood’s full length albums are available on vinyl at Borderline.

Another Borderline favorite for fall is MADONNA – Chilled, vol 1 & 2! Listen to Madonna in a whole new way with these gorgeous, stripped down versions of her greatest hits! “Beautiful Stranger” features only ambient vocals and a single organ while “Ray Of Light” has full band instruments and almost feels like smooth jazz. The best part of this series is that it features ALL MADONNA’S ACTUAL VOCALS! That’s right, these aren’t covers. They’re chill remixes that couldn’t be any COOLER!  Play this CD on a cold morning with a cup of coffee, or in the background of an evening with some friends over and a bottle of wine. Have you ever had that moment when you’re sitting in a cab or a bus while it’s raining, you’re looking out the window, and the music matches the moment perfectly so you feel like you’re in a music video? (Or that one scene from Lindsey Lohan’s remake of The Parent Trap?) So have we. The perfect album for that moment – Strange Little Birds by the band Garbage. We know you’ve heard Garbage before, and this 2016 album is possibly their best. A little softer than some of their past releases, but still packing a nice punch. Finally, the kings of fall weather music – My Chemical Romance. TWO of their albums were re-released this month. Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge was included in the Ten Bands, One Cause charity fundraiser for which ten albums are reissued on PINK VINYL with the proceeds benefitting breast cancer patients and their caretakers. Also released this month – The Black Parade/Living With Ghosts 10^th anniversary LP Vinyl Box Set! Both of these are available in store and sound PERFECT on vinyl. Great for a dark fall night as Halloween approaches.

In Stock Now!

July brought two exciting new REMIX COMPILATIONS. The first being Listen Up! Vol. 101. Remixes featuring songs by Adele, Zayn, J Lo, Justin Timberlake, Madonna, Nick Jonas, and more. This compilation is available as both a continuous and non-continuous mix. A perfect compilation of summer jams for end-of-summer road trips, parties, or just the commute to and from work!

The second remix compilation was PRIDE 2016! Released the same week as the mass shooting in Orlando, Florida, this compilation celebrates LOVE and what it means to be gay.  Remixes, some previously unreleased, feature songs by MADONNA, Michael Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, Diana Ross, Deee-lite, and more. The must-have remix compilation of 2016!

The most exciting release this August was the much anticipated new BRITNEY SPEARS album – Glory. Available as a DELUXE EDITION CD, Britney brought her best this time around with what is being called her “best album yet” by critics around the world! Highly danceable but also very modern – Britney seems to not have aged a bit, and she is definitely at the highest point in her career so far! Love it.

Barbra Streisand struck again with her 11^th #1 album, her 35^th album altogether. Perfectly titled “Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway,” Barbra finds herself among the likes of big movie stars such as Alec Baldwin, Anne Hathaway, Melissa McCarthy, Hugh Jackman, Jamie Foxx, and more singing the best hits Broadway has to offer! Babs, you know we love you!
